Step #11: Lettering Pages for Your Comic Book – 8-Page Challenge #2

Header for Step 11 letters

Creators, we are moving into one of the areas of storytelling that are unique to comic books: lettering.

In this next step, you will be lettering to your comics. Lettering can influence the professional appearance of your comics. Lettering is one of those steps that people only notice when it is not very good. (But your lettering will look great.)

In Step 1, you planned your story concept for an 8-Page Story. In Step 2, you broke down your story into a plot. In Step 3, you revised the plot. In Step 4, our artists started creating character sheets. In Step #5, you wrote your script in “full script” format. In Step 7, you roughted out your comic book pages. In Step 8, you pencilled your art. In Step 9, you inked your art. In Step 10, you colored your comic pages.

In Step 11: Lettering, you will apply letters to your pages. This is your final creative step before the editors move into production.
Your lettered comic book pages will be posted in the Step 11 folder in the Create@ComicBookSchool forums.

Joe Sabino Letters from Avengers Assemble

We’ve been working from a script that I (Buddy Scalera) wrote for Marvel’s Avengers Assemble comic. Ron Lim penciled and inked the pages. The colors were by Chris Sotomayor.

Now you’re going to see the fantastic letters by Joe Sabino.

Ready, Set, Letter!

Okay, so now it’s your turn. If you are participating in the 8 Page Challenge, you should post your lettered comic pages in the Create@ComicBookSchool forums. Also, you should feel free to leave comments for the participants to help them improve their work.

Post your inked pages into Step 11: Letters in the Create@ComicBookSchool Forums.
